• To promote the personal, social, vocational, and educational development of the TY students and to prepare them for their roles as participative and responsible members of society.
• To help the student move from dependent learning to independent learning.
• It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for the student to grow in independence.
• Transition year fosters academic achievement as students prepare for leaving cert, further study and adult and working life.

It encourages the development of a wide range of transferrable critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.
