Scoil Mhuire agus Íde Soccer Coaching Course

Transition Year students at SMI have had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a new initiative to provide a quality soccer experience in the school. The course is being delivered by John Chianza, UEFA A and B licenced coach.
He has been teaching the Transition Year students the how and the why of coaching over the last 3 weeks. He has explained the mechanics of the game and is showing the students how to design training sessions that they will then deliver to second year students of Scoil Mhuire agus Ide. At week four each participant will be teamed up with another TY student and given a second year team to coach.
They will coach these teams for 2 weeks and then the TY students will organise, set up and referee a soccer tournament in the school. It provides opportunities for those students who are involved in the coaching programme to see the practical side of the theory they have covered in class.
There is also an opportunity to go out to local primary schools and assist in the delivery of their sessions. Pictured are some of our TY's coaching some Courtenay School students at Newcastle Town FC Astro in the Demense.
