The Framework contains 24 statements of learning, underpinned by the eight principles, provide the basis for schools to plan for, design and evaluate their junior cycle programmes. That process of planning focuses on the combination of curriculum components (subjects, PLU’s, and short courses) and other learning experiences. Schools will ensure that all statements of learning, alongside the key skills feature in the programmes of all junior cycle students.

All students in Scoil Mhuire agus Íde study the seven Core Subjects and a Modern Foreign Language (French or German) for the Junior Cycle. (Only students with Department of Education exemptions or exempt from study all these subjects.)
1st Year students do a Taster Programme for their option subjects. Students will experience each of the following for a three week period at the beginning of the school year. The Subjects Tasted are,
Students will then preference vote on their preferred two options to be studied for the duration of Junior Cycle.
Students are also offered a number of extra-curricular and co-curricular as part of the Junior Cycle. All second year students have the opportunity to partake in an activities trip to Delphi in Co. Mayo.
All students are also invited to compete in BT Young Scientist and Entrepreneurial competitions.
